EKPO FUEL CELL TECHNOLOGIES
EKPO is a leading joint venture of ElringKlinger and Plastic
Omnium that focuses on the development and large-scale production of fuel cell stacks and components for CO2-neutral mobility.
COMPANY DESCRIPTION
The newly founded joint venture EKPO Fuel Cell Technologies (EKPO) is a full-service supplier of fuel cell stacks and components. EKPO’s technology, applications, and products for fuel cells are based on expertise of more than two decades. Combined, we have been in business for more than 200 years. ElringKlinger has integrated its entire fuel cell business, while Plastic Omnium is contributing resources centered around development and industrial-scale production. The overall package is nothing less than a benchmark for the entire industry. Based on its experience, EKPO is a full-service supplier for fuel cell stacks and components used in cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, but also in trains and ships.
EKPO has successfully participated in several funded projects. The new NM12 stack platform was developed as part of the VOLUMETRIQ funding project. This has been used, for instance, in funded projects such as Keytech4EV to build up further know-how in the field of operating strategy for hybrid fuel cell/battery electric vehicles. With HySnow as another funding project, experience was also gained regarding the sensitivity of fuel cell operation to various operating parameters and environmental conditions, with a particular focus on frost start and cold ambient conditions. But also the application of diagnostic and control strategies, operation management of fuel cells in buses could be deepened with the help of the funding project GiantLeap.
ROLE & KEY CONTRIBUTION
EKPO’s role in MORELife is to provide its expertise in fuels cell operation as well as its hardware for the development and verification of ASTs and ADTs towards the performance and durability targets set for heavy duty applications.
